| Breaking News | | IL News: Playoffs begin Tuesday, September 8th, 2009: From spring training to the last out of the regular season, it has been the goal of every GM, team, manager and player to reach the International League playoffs. They all aspire to win baseball's Holy Grail, the Round 2 title. Now, for the elite teams, the first steps of that journey begin in earnest with the Round 1 starting today. The opening playoff series will pit these teams against one another: Durham Bulls versus Rochester Red Wings and Louisville Bats versus Syracuse Chiefs. | | IL News: Regular Season ends Tuesday, September 8th, 2009: The 2009 International League season has ended. Most clubs and most players are headed home for the year, but a few good teams will head to the playoffs, which are slated to start soon. They will get a chance to be the league's champion. All they have to do is win the Round 2 -- a not-so-easy task. To win it takes a combination of good pitching, good defense and timely hitting -- and occasionally some lucky bounces of the ball. | | IL Premier Player Picked Monday, September 7th, 2009: At the age of 27, Jake Fox might have some potential he hasn't realized yet -- if his success at the plate last week is any indication. The Durham catcher put up some exceptional numbers the past seven days with a .636 batting average. For his efforts Fox collected the International League Player of the Week Award.
He racked up 14 hits in 22 at-bats, 7 home runs and 16 RBIs last week in 7 games.
This season Fox is hitting .405 with 83 hits, 23 home runs, 65 RBIs, scored 57 runs and played in 57 games. | | | | |
