CAR News: Playoffs begin
Tuesday, September 8th, 2009: A playoff baseball game has a surreal atmosphere. Fans become one, roaring in unison at a great play and sharing the grief at blown opportunity. Victory and defeat play out in a rainbow of colors, sounds, smells and feelings. Carolina League playoff baseball is a memorable experience. What is it like? Ask the 10-year-old sitting with his dad as he plucks a foul ball out of the air. Ask the veteran slugger who hit that walk-off home run. Ask the manager in the big game after coming from 10 games back to win the pennant. Ask the countless number of legends who have flourished or those greats who never won the big one. Or tomorrow, ask any of the rookies what it's like to play in one of today's Round 1 showdowns:
Lynchburg Hillcats versus Myrtle Beach Pelicans and Salem Red Sox versus Potomac Nationals.
CAR News: Regular Season ends
Tuesday, September 8th, 2009: The 2009 regular season is now history, and all of the championship contenders have been determined. The Carolina League playoffs will begin in just a few days. This is the renowned "Second Season," which decides the league's top team. The winner of the Round 2 will be this year's champions.
Freeman Wins CAR Player of the Week Trophy
Monday, September 7th, 2009: The Player of the Week has been announced by the Carolina League. The award went to Freddie Freeman, first baseman of the Myrtle Beach Pelicans.

He dominated league pitchers with a .444 average to win the honor. Freeman went 8-18 for the week, totaled 3 home runs with 5 RBIs and scored 7 times.

In the current season, Freeman has put up a .280 batting average with 143 hits, 22 home runs, 79 runs batted in and scored 87 runs.
