It is a mythical creature, a fleeting, mystical force that consumes anyone with a passion for one of the ballclubs vying for championship gold. It sweeps over you, pins you to your seat or kicks you forcibly to your feet in the flash of an instant. Today, the Gulf Coast League gives way to this passion as players, fans and the elite clubs of the league embark on an exciting journey fraught with anguish and ecstasy. Wednesday, August 26th, 2009: The regular season has come and gone in the Gulf Coast League and the playoffs are just over the horizon.
One pitch, one play, one hit, one error -- or one call -- could decide it.
This is what all the teams are playing for -- the ultimate goal -- the Round 2 crown.

 | Unknown and Olivares Suspended 9 Games For Brawl
Monday, August 24th, 2009: Yesterday at Louisville Grounds Joe Unknown and Manuel Olivares got into each other's space and then into each other's face. They began to grapple and fell to the ground. That's when it boiled over into a full-fledged bench-clearing tussle between the GCL Rays and GCL Mets. Reason finally prevailed as the umpires restored order. After much discussion, only the two major combatants were ejected from the game.
Today the league office notified both ballclubs that Unknown and Olivares would be given 9-game suspensions for fighting.
For the season Olivares is 1-and-0 with no saves and a 3.86 ERA. He has given up 17 hits in 21 innings with 11 strikeouts.
