| Breaking News | | 3-HR Binge for Méndez Against De La Salle Thursday, September 10th, 2009: Rocky Mountain center fielder Rubén Méndez sensed he was going to have a good game at the plate, but he underestimated just a little bit. Prior to the game, Méndez predicted he would hit a home run against the De La Salle Cougars.
During batting practice he told his teammates, "I really got my swing down pat. I feel some thunder in the lumber. I'm gonna get me a home run in this game." He was right. He did hit a home run -- three of them, in fact -- pacing the Grizzlies over the Cougars 10-3.
"I was seeing good, feeling good and swinging good," Méndez told reporters after the game.
To go along with the homers, he collected 4 RBIs and scored 4 runs.
R. Méndez hit a solo-shot off F. Fowle in the 1st, hit a two-run home run off F. Fowle in the 2nd, hit a solo-shot off F. Fowle in the 4th, flied out in the 6th and walked in the 9th.
Thus far this season Méndez is hitting .304 with 3 home runs, 10 RBIs and 12 runs scored. He has 17 hits in 56 at-bats and has played in 15 games. | | EHSL Star of the Week Honored Monday, September 7th, 2009: Gustavo Hernández must have thought he was dreaming. First he went on an exceptional week-long batting spree, bashing the ball at a .464 clip, then the North Roseburg right fielder finds outs he has been chosen the league's best performer and gets the EHSL Player of the Week Award.
He told BNN reporters in the postgame, "It was a great week for me. I could see the ball so well. Plus some of the balls seemed to have good eyes, too."
For the week Hernández batted .464 (13-28) with 2 home runs and 12 RBIs.
So far this season, Hernández has recorded a .331 batting average with 40 hits, 9 home runs, 31 RBIs, 18 runs scored and a .421 OBP. | | Red-Hot Acosta Scorches Redhawks Saturday, September 5th, 2009: It doesn't happen very often, but it happened for Arturo Acosta -- a 5-hit day. He went on a rampage at Bozeman Field and paced the Monarchs to a 14-10 win over the Bozeman Redhawks.
After his dynamite batting performance the Menchville right fielder told the press, "I just tried to get myself in a good count and have a good at-bat. That's all I can control." His philosophy paid some great dividends today. He slammed 5 hits in 6 tries and put his name in the record book.
A. Acosta doubled in the 1st, singled in the 2nd, hit an RBI single in the 3rd, singled in the 5th, struck out in the 6th and singled in the 8th.
So far this season Acosta has 1 home run and a .323 batting average. | | | | | Yesterday's Games - | | Away Team | Home Team | Result | Time | Winning Pitcher | Losing Pitcher | | Sumrall | Bozeman | 1-2 | 7:05 pm | B.Schmidt (2-1, 4.30 ERA) | R.Dalzell (1-3, 3.59 ERA) | | Rocky Mountain | De La Salle | 10-3 | 7:05 pm | S.Nagamoto (2-0, 2.41 ERA) | F.Fowle (3-2, 4.19 ERA) | | Columbus | Bellaire | 3-5 | 7:05 pm | L.Hriniak (2-5, 6.00 ERA) | L.Randolph (2-3, 5.00 ERA) | | North Roseburg | Sylvan Hills | 16-4 | 7:05 pm | W.Patterson (4-2, 4.72 ERA) | Á.Rivas (0-5, 4.75 ERA) | | Saint Rita | Menchville | 5-6 | 7:05 pm | R.Fierro (3-2, 4.40 ERA) | D.Pick (1-1, 1.76 ERA) | | Richland | Yuba City | 10-9 | 7:05 pm | J.Rojas (3-2, 6.04 ERA) | R.Maddox (0-2, 3.06 ERA) | | Farragut | Desert Ridge | 14-0 | 7:05 pm | M.Méndez (1-1, 6.97 ERA) | M.Rucker (3-4, 4.13 ERA) | | | Today's Games - | | Away Team | Home Team | Time | Starting Pitcher Away Team | Starting Pitcher Home Team | | Desert Ridge (20-18, Road: 11-8) | De La Salle (18-20, Home: 8-11) | 7:05 pm | LHP A.Vásquez (2-1, 2.13 ERA) | RHP C.Simon (3-2, 3.93 ERA) | | Yuba City (20-18, Road: 10-8) | Sumrall (18-20, Home: 11-8) | 7:05 pm | RHP M.Green (4-2, 3.64 ERA) | RHP P.Ireta (1-4, 2.83 ERA) | | Menchville (22-16, Road: 11-8) | Farragut (25-13, Home: 14-5) | 7:05 pm | LHP P.Gilbert (0-4, 6.64 ERA) | RHP C.López (3-2, 4.80 ERA) | | Sylvan Hills (15-23, Road: 6-13) | Richland (22-16, Home: 11-7) | 1:05 pm | RHP S.Henson (2-4, 7.59 ERA) | RHP S.Martínez (2-3, 4.32 ERA) | | Bellaire (16-22, Road: 6-13) | Saint Rita (15-23, Home: 7-12) | 7:05 pm | RHP S.Sugano (2-2, 2.19 ERA) | LHP M.Mendoca (2-2, 4.63 ERA) | | Columbus (16-22, Road: 6-13) | North Roseburg (17-21, Home: 9-9) | 7:05 pm | LHP A.Vega (1-3, 4.07 ERA) | RHP J.Silva (3-3, 4.37 ERA) | | Bozeman (21-17, Road: 11-7) | Rocky Mountain (21-17, Home: 15-4) | 7:05 pm | RHP J.Butler (3-5, 5.26 ERA) | LHP D.Abbott (4-1, 1.46 ERA) | | |
